Worth noting that in games that have Sonic Drop, tapping/holding down as the piece is on the bottom row instantly locks it. Sonic Drop = As opposed to Hard Drop (hitting up = send piece to bottom and lock it in), Sonic Drop is a mainstay in the (Arika-produced) Japanese Tetris games, a thing where hitting up sends the piece to the bottom row but you still have a moment to re-maneuver as if you'd moved it there using the regular ol' "normal" soft drop (holding Down.) Very useful for when you need to sneak a piece underneath something else, but don't want to spend 1~2 seconds pushing it to the bottom the slow-ish way.
Game Boy Tetris, for example, gives you S and Z pieces up the wazoo. Other randomizers include 14-bag (2 copies of each card) and 3-strike (true randomizer, but if a piece has come up too recently it throws out the result unless it comes up 3 times in a row, in which case it allows it.) There's no truly random RNG, so older Tetris games (which had no system for piece generation other than RNG) had serious bias problems when it came to pieces it handed out.
